Sargent hardware lines at a glance

Sargent organizes its locks by "line" or "series", and each line has its own grade, door prep and function numbers. Knowing the line is the fastest way to find a replacement or match an existing building. The table lists the lines in our catalog with the grade stated in our category names.

Sargent mortise locks: the 8200 Series

The Sargent 8200 is a mortise lock for doors prepared with a mortise pocket, and it is the Sargent lock most often specified for heavy traffic and institutional doors. Functions are shown by the number after 82, for example 8204 storeroom or closet, 8205 office or entry, 8237 classroom, 8238 classroom security (intruder), 8255 office or entry and 8259 double locking. The letters after the number are the lever and rose style, such as LNB or LNL. Parts, cylinders and body-only replacements are listed under Sargent 8200 parts and accessories.

Sargent cylindrical locks: 10X, 11 Line, 7 Line and 6500

Choose a Sargent cylindrical (bored) lock by grade and lever style. The 10X Line and the 11 Line (T-Zone) are listed as Grade 1 for heavy duty use, while the 7 Line and the 6500 Line are listed as Grade 2 for medium duty doors. Functions follow the same logic across lines: G04 is storeroom, G30 communicating, U15 passage and U65 privacy, and the two-letter suffix (LL, LB, LP, LJ) is the lever design. The 10X Line also includes electromechanical versions, such as the 10XG71 fail secure lock.

Cylinder and core options: LC, 60 and 70 prefixes

The prefix before a Sargent model number tells you what cylinder or core it takes, so read it before ordering. In the listings, LC- means conventional less cylinder (for example LC-8204 or LC-10XG04), 60- means the lock accepts a large format interchangeable core (LFIC), and 70- means it accepts a small format interchangeable core (SFIC). Match the prefix to your building's key system; Sargent LFIC cores are covered under interchangeable cores.

Sargent exit devices and trims

Sargent 80 Series exit devices include rim, surface vertical rod, concealed vertical rod and mortise devices, with fire rated versions, and they pair with 700 Series outside trims. When a device needs service rather than replacement, the Sargent exit device parts category lists springs, rails, strikes and rods by part number.

Sargent door closers

The catalog lists Sargent surface closers in the 281, 351, 1131 and 1431 series, plus Sargent door closer parts such as arms and covers. Match the series on the closer body before ordering arms or covers, because parts are not interchangeable between series.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who makes Sargent door hardware?

Sargent is a commercial door hardware brand of ASSA ABLOY, known for mortise and cylindrical locks, exit devices and door closers. Its products are specified in schools, healthcare, government and office buildings. On this page you will find the Sargent lines we carry and how to read their model numbers.

What is a Sargent lock?

A Sargent lock is a commercial lockset made by Sargent, either a mortise lock such as the 8200 Series or a cylindrical lever lock such as the 10X Line or 11 Line. Each model number shows the line, the function and the lever style, which you need to match when ordering a replacement.

How do I tell the hand of my door for a Sargent lock?

Stand on the outside, the key side, of the door. If the hinges are on your left and the door opens away from you, it is left hand; on your right, right hand. If it opens toward you, it is a reverse bevel door. Many Sargent locks are field reversible, but check the listing before ordering handed parts.
