Dexter cylindrical locks: C1000 vs C2000

Choose the C1000 Series for heavy traffic and exterior doors and the C2000 Series for medium duty interior doors. The listings describe the C1000 as Grade 1, UL listed 3 hour, for 1-3/8" to 2" doors, and the C2000 as Grade 2, UL listed 3 hour, for 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" doors. Both come in regular and curved lever styles, many with clutching levers, and in functions such as classroom (CLRM) and storeroom (STRM). The function and lever code are in the model, for example C2000-CL-CLRM-R is a C2000 classroom lock with a regular, clutching lever.

Dexter mortise locks

Dexter mortise locks in the catalog are listed by function number and trim, for example the 8225 dormitory or exit, 8235 storeroom and 8251 storeroom deadbolt functions with LE1L trim, in 26D satin chrome. Check the function description on the listing, because mortise functions differ in which side locks and how the deadbolt works.

Dexter deadbolts

Dexter deadbolts come in two series. The DB1000 is listed as Grade 1 in single cylinder (DB1000-SCT) and double cylinder (DB1000-DCT) versions, with a 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" adjustable backset and UL listed 3 hour. The DB2000-SCT is a single cylinder deadbolt listed as Grade 2 in its title and series field. Compare both with other brands in commercial deadbolts.

Dexter exit devices and trims

The Dexter ED1000 Series is listed as Grade 1, with rim (ED1000-R) and surface vertical rod (ED1000-V) devices, fire rated versions (F) and exit only (EO) and trim functions. Outside trims are in Dexter exit trims.

Dexter door closers

Dexter closers are grouped by duty: the DCH1000 heavy duty, DCM1000 medium duty, DCL2000 light duty and DCR8000 residential duty, with regular arm (RW/PA), hold open (HW/PA) and dead stop parallel arm (DS) options and slim, full or less cover versions. The DCL2000P-DP18TJ is a pull side/top jamb drop plate for the DCL2000. Choose the duty by door traffic and location.

Dexter knob locks and replacement parts

Dexter also lists cylindrical knob locks in Dexter knob locks, for doors where a knob is specified or where the existing hardware is being matched. Note that lever locks are the usual choice on accessible routes, because levers can be operated without tight grasping. For Dexter closers, drop plates and accessories are in Dexter door closer accessories; for lock repairs, send us the model number and we will check the part.

Is Dexter made by Schlage?

Dexter and Schlage are separate brands under the same parent company, Allegion. Dexter commercial products have their own series, model numbers and parts, so they are not interchangeable with Schlage locks. The Dexter product catalog (PDF) attached to our listings shows the full range.

What does CLRM mean on a Dexter lock?

CLRM is the classroom function code in Dexter model numbers, as in C2000-CL-CLRM-R. A classroom lock is locked or unlocked from the outside with a key, and the inside lever always allows exit. STRM is the storeroom function, where the outside lever is always locked.
