Alarm Lock Trilogy Models Explained: DL2700, PDL, LocDown, Narrow Stile and Networx

Posted by National Lock Supply on Oct 15th 2026

Quick Verdict

Read a Trilogy model number in three parts: prefix, series, suffix. DL means keypad only, PDL adds a built-in HID prox reader, ETDL is an exit trim for push bar doors. The series number sets the door type and feature tier: 2700 is the basic cylindrical keypad (100 users, no audit trail), 3200 and 4100 add a 40,000 event audit trail, 3500 is mortise, 1200 and 1300 are narrow stile aluminum door trims, 6100 and 6200 are Networx wireless. Suffixes set the variant: LD for lockdown, CR or DB for classroom or deadbolt mortise, IC for interchangeable core prep. For one door with a few codes, the DL2700 at about $423 at NLS is the default. Add audit trail, prox or network only when the site will use them.

How is the Alarm Lock Trilogy line organized?

Four families share the same 12-button all-metal keypad and clutch lever:

  • DL (keypad): PIN codes only. Entry is the DL2700; audit-trail models are the DL3200, DL4100 and DL3500.
  • PDL (prox plus keypad): built-in HID prox reader plus 3 to 6 digit PINs. The PDL3000 cylindrical, PDL3500 mortise and PDL1300 narrow stile trim.
  • LD (LocDown): the DL2700LD adds a remote keyfob and an interior red indicator bar for school lockdown.
  • Networx: the DL6100 keypad and PDL6200 prox lock, programmed at the keypad or over a radio link to a DL-Windows computer. The DL6100 listing states Networx locks support 802.11 or ethernet.

Every model in the family is a standalone, battery-operated lock: no panel and no wiring to the door for basic operation. For the head-to-head against the Schlage FE595 and Kaba Simplex, see our DL2700 vs FE595 vs Simplex comparison; for the keypad vs card question itself, read keypad vs proximity entry.

Model Credential Door prep Users / audit trail Network Order

ETDLS1G PIN Exit trim for push bar 2,000 / 40,000 events No ETDLS1G/26D
DL6100 / PDL6200 PIN / PIN and 125 kHz prox Cylindrical 5,000 / 35,000 events Networx PDL6200

Start by credential (PIN only or PIN plus card), then by door prep, then by whether anyone will pull the audit log; every model above is in the Alarm Lock Trilogy category.

Which Trilogy fits a cylindrical, mortise, narrow stile or exit device door?

Door prep decides the series before features do.

Cylindrical doors. The DL2700 retrofits cylindrical knobsets and digital locks on a slightly modified ANSI 161 prep, fits 1-5/8 in. to 1-7/8 in. doors, uses a 2-3/4 in. backset with 2-3/8 in. available, and ships with a 6-pin SC1 keyway key override cylinder. Campuses on interchangeable cores order the core-prep versions instead: DL2700IC (SFIC prep), DL2700IC-C (6-pin Corbin Russwin LFIC prep) or DL2700IC-R (6-pin Sargent LFIC prep), all less core.

Mortise doors. The DL2700CR, DL3500CR and DL3500DB are mortise locks. The DL3500 listings describe classroom or deadbolt function models, left or right handed, with stainless latchbolt and deadbolt. If the building standard is a heavy-duty mechanical mortise instead, compare against the BEST platform in our sibling guide on BEST 45H vs 40H mortise locks.

Narrow stile aluminum doors. The DL1200 and DL1300 are outside retrofit trims for existing latch locks: the listings name Adams Rite 1850, 1950, 4710, 4070, 4730 and 4900 series and MS1850S and MS1950S series. They supply a 1-1/4 in. key override mortise cylinder (1-1/8 in. and 1-3/8 in. supported), fit 1-3/4 in. stiles with 31/32 in., 1-1/8 in. or 1-1/2 in. backsets, and run on two 3V lithium batteries. Storefronts that need remote release or access control on the strike side instead use an electric strike; see our sibling on the Adams Rite 7100 vs 7400 electric strike.

Exit device doors. The ETDLS1G is a mortise-based exit trim for push bar applications, 1-5/8 in. to 1-7/8 in. doors, supplied with a generic rim cylinder; other manufacturers' cylinder adapters are ordered separately. The listing variants carry a suffix after the finish (V99, CR8, C50, Y71, NS8, M99) that identifies the exit device variant: match it to the device on the door. The PDL1300ET is the prox version for narrow stile doors with a panic device and lists templates for existing mounting holes on Von Duprin 22 and 33/35, Corbin Russwin ED8200/ED8400, Dorma 5300 and other series.

Door type Trilogy model Reason
Office, storage, staff room (cylindrical) DL2700 Lowest cost, 100 PIN users, no log needed
Classroom (cylindrical) DL2700LD Keyfob lockdown and interior indicator bar
Classroom or office (mortise) DL3500CR Mortise function plus 40,000 event log
Restroom or dressing room DL4100 Inside privacy button locks out codes
Storefront aluminum door DL1200 or PDL1300 Retrofits existing narrow stile latch lock
Panic device door ETDLS1G or PDL1300ET Trim drives the existing exit device
Multi-door site with central management PDL6200 or DL6100 Networx radio link to DL-Windows

Any change to an egress door, fire-rated opening or exit device trim is subject to the AHJ and local code; confirm before ordering. For the narrow stile retrofit, the DL1200 keypad trim runs about $646 at NLS.

What do audit trail and programming actually give you?

The DL2700 is 100% keypad programmable: master, 10 managers, 90 users and 3 service codes, 3 to 6 digit PINs, individual, group or total user lockout, passage mode by manager or master, a 2-wire remote override, and 5 AA batteries rated at 200,000 cycles. It does not log who opened the door.

The audit-trail tier changes the job from "who has a code" to "who used it, when":

  • DL3200: 2,000 users, 40,000 event audit trail with time and date stamp, 150 scheduled lock and unlock events, keypad lockout after 3 bad entries, programmable relays.
  • DL4100: DL3200 feature set plus an inside privacy pushbutton that temporarily locks out keypad codes, and 500 scheduled events.
  • PDL3000: 2,000 users programmed for card only, code only or card plus code, HID prox cards and keyfobs, 500 scheduled events, Tap and Add batch card enrollment.
  • ETDLS1G: three programming paths per the listing: at the keypad, from a PC via DL Windows software and the AL-PCI cable, or through the AL-DTM handheld Data Transfer Module.

If nobody will download the log, the DL2700 is the right buy. If HR, a school district or an insurer needs a printable access record, step to an audit-trail model. Sites moving many openings off keys at once should read our case study on migrating 200 doors to electronic credentials before choosing between standalone and networked.

Order the DL2700 for code-only doors and an audit-trail model wherever the access record matters, both in the keypad and prox locks category.

What does the DL2700LD LocDown model add for schools?

The DL2700LD is the DL2700 platform with lockdown hardware. Per the listing: a 4-button keyfob (2-3/8 x 1-1/4 x 1/2 in.) locks down up to four locks; one keyfob ships with each lock and up to 50 are supported per lock; range is up to 100 ft depending on construction; additional keyfobs order as RR-4KEYFOB. Activating LocDown lights a large red indicator bar on the inside of the door so occupants can confirm the door is secured, and a small light flashes outside. User codes are 3 to 5 digits here, up to 100.

For hands-free release on any cylindrical Trilogy, the RR-TRILOGYKIT remote release kit adds a desk button and a receiver that mounts in the battery compartment and connects to the two white remote release wires; it retrofits cylindrical Trilogy locks manufactured since 2000. Lockdown planning, classroom function and egress are AHJ matters; the lock does not replace a school's emergency plan.

For classrooms, order the DL2700LD LocDown lock at about $600 at NLS, plus extra RR-4KEYFOB fobs for each staff member who needs one.

When do Networx wireless models make sense?

Networx moves programming and audit retrieval off the door. The DL6100 keypad lock and PDL6200 prox lock both hold 5,000 user codes and a 35,000 event audit trail, and are programmed at the keypad or through their radio link to a DL-Windows equipped computer. The DL6100 listing adds global lockdown via the lock, the server or an optional keyfob, a 3 hour UL fire rating, BHMA Grade 1, and 4 C cells rated for 500,000 cycles or up to 5 years.

The PDL6200 adds door monitoring through its door position switch and request to exit feature: entry logged, exit logged (inside lever turned), door ajar and forced door, with an alert sounder and an internal relay that can be programmed for ajar and forced events. Its reader takes standard 125 kHz proximity credentials only, so confirm the site's card technology first.

Pick Networx when one administrator manages many doors and does not want to walk each one with a laptop; the PDL6200 Networx prox lock runs about $1,810 at NLS.

What ordering fields do I need on a Trilogy order?

Put these fields on the order or PO:

  1. Model and series: DL, PDL or ETDL plus number (DL2700, PDL3000, ETDLS1G).
  2. Variant suffix: LD, CR, DB, IC, IC-C, IC-R, ET, or the exit device suffix on ETDL trims.
  3. Finish: US26D satin chrome or US10B on most models; the DL4100 also lists US3.
  4. Backset and door thickness: 2-3/4 in. standard on cylindrical models (2-3/8 in. available), 31/32, 1-1/8 or 1-1/2 in. on narrow stile trims.
  5. Cylinder or core: standard SC1 override, or IC prep less core for your system.
  6. Handing: most cylindrical models are non-handed; the mortise PDL3500 series is handed and field reversible.
  7. Spares: S6065 7V battery pack for the listed mortise models, S6172 double-sided battery pack, RR-TRILOGYKIT for remote release.

Build the line from these fields and order from the Alarm Lock Trilogy category.

Common mistakes

  1. Ordering a DL2700 when the client expects a usage report. The DL2700 has no audit trail; step to DL3200 or higher.
  2. Buying a cylindrical model for a mortise-prepped door, or the reverse.
  3. Ordering a prox model without checking the site's card format. The PDL6200 reads standard 125 kHz prox only.
  4. Using a DL1200 on a door with no existing narrow stile latch lock. It is a retrofit trim, not a full lock.
  5. Ordering an ETDL trim without matching the exit device suffix to the device on the door.
  6. Ordering the standard DL2700 for a campus on interchangeable cores instead of the IC, IC-C or IC-R prep.
  7. Installing lockdown or egress-changing hardware without AHJ review.
