Why maglocks need brackets and plates

A maglock holds the door by pressing a steel armature on the door flat against the magnet on the frame, so the two faces must meet squarely. On many doors that does not happen straight out of the box: the frame stop is too narrow, the door swings in, the door is glass, or the header is set back. Brackets, filler plates, spacers and drop plates correct the geometry so the armature meets the magnet fully, which is what the lock's holding force depends on.

Brackets for glass doors

A glass door has no frame member on the door to carry the armature, so the armature mounts on a glass door bracket. Securitron lists the GDB glass door bracket for mounting the armature to a glass door, with the AKG adhesive kit, RCI lists the GB8112 1/2" glass door bracket for the 8310, DynaLock lists brackets by device (4801 for 3101, 4850 for 2011, 2022, 3000 and 3002, 4852 for 2012 and 3001, 4854 for 2511 and 2522), and SDC lists the HDB1V single glass door kit for its 1511, 1571 and 1581 models.

Armature plates and holders

The armature plate is the steel plate on the door that the magnet holds. If it is damaged or missing, replace it with the one made for your lock model: for example, Securitron APS-32 for the M32/M38 and APS-62 for the M62, or RCI armature plate holders such as the AH10 and AH15 for the 8310, 8330 and 8340 and the AH71 for the 8371. Energy absorbing sex bolts (EASB) and the SB-1 replacement sex bolt hold the armature to the door.

Filler plates, spacers and drop plates: getting the gap right

Filler plates and spacers close the gap between the magnet and the frame stop, and drop plates lower the magnet below a header. Choose by thickness and by length to match the lock. The listings give exact sizes, for example RCI filler bars from 1/4" to 5/8" thick for the 8310, DynaLock single maglock filler plates in 10-1/2", 11" and 14" lengths and a 22" double version, and Alarm Controls 1/2" drop down plates for single 600 lb. locks (AM3300) and double locks (AM3332 for 600 lb., AM6332 for 1200 lb.).

What to have ready when ordering maglock accessories
