Choosing a Falcon closer arm
Choose the arm by function first. A regular arm with PA bracket (-3077/PA) closes the door every time and can be mounted regular or parallel arm. A hold open arm (-3049/PA) holds the door at a set angle. Spring-n-Stop arms (SS) add a spring-cushioned stop, and dead stop arms (DS) add a rigid stop, both available with hold open on the SC70A. For abusive locations, the SC70A-3077HD is listed as a heavy duty parallel arm. Do not use hold open arms on fire doors that must close on their own.
Mounting and drop plates: when you need one
A plate is needed when the door or frame is too narrow for the closer's standard mounting. Falcon's SC70A-18 listing says it is required for hinge side mounting where the top rail is less than 3-7/8" (98 mm), and for top jamb mounting on narrow head frames. The SC70A-18PA is a narrow top rail drop plate, and the SC60A and SC80A mounting plates are listed for top jamb, push side or parallel arm mounting.
Covers, shoes and spacers
A missing or cracked cover exposes the closer body, so replace it with the cover made for the series: the SC70A-72 full cover or the SC80A-72FC full cover.
