Securitron M62 vs M32 vs M82 Magnalock: Holding Force, Mounting and Accessories
Posted by National Lock Supply on Oct 22nd 2026
Quick Verdict
Pick by the door's job. The M32 (600 lbs) is for interior traffic control on rooms, storage and hallways inside a secured perimeter. The M62 (1,200 lbs) is the default for perimeter and exterior doors and has the widest mounting range: hollow metal, wood, aluminum-framed glass, all-glass doors, double doors and gates. The M82 (1,800 lbs) is for high-risk openings where extreme forces are expected. All three run on automatic dual voltage 12/24 VDC with 10 ft of cable and BondSTAT (B) or DPS (D) monitoring options. On gates, order the face drilled conduit version (M62FG or M82G). Round out the order with an EEB2 exit button, an AQD1 or AQD2 power supply and the bracket that fits the swing.
M32 vs M62 vs M82: how do holding force and application compare?
Securitron positions each model by environment, and the listings are specific about it. The M32 is described for "traffic control in high-use areas within secured or monitored perimeters," with storage areas, rooms and hallways as typical applications. The M62 is the "versatility" model for interior, perimeter and exterior access control. The M82 is "industrial strength hold for challenging indoor/outdoor environments" and high-risk locations.

Shared features across M32 and M62 listings: fire rated for 3 hours, PoE friendly, fully sealed for weather resistant operation, size optimized for use with door closers, instant release with no residual magnetism, built-in MOV noise suppression, and collapsing blind nuts into the frame. The M82 listing repeats the sealed housing, dual voltage, instant release and blind nut mounting. At NLS the M32 runs about $334, the M62 about $427 and the M82 about $598.
The general question of how much holding force a door needs belongs to how to choose a magnetic lock. Here the rule is simpler: interior traffic door, M32; anything on the perimeter, M62; documented attack risk or abuse, M82.
What to order: the Securitron M62 for most perimeter doors, the M32 for interior traffic control.
Which mounting variant: direct mount, FG face drilled, split strike or double?
The suffix letters on a Securitron Magnalock tell you how it mounts and what it reports.
- Direct mount (standard). The M62 and M82 base listings are direct mount with standard strike: the magnet bolts up into the header with collapsing blind nuts.
- F, face mount. Face Mount options put the mounting bolt holes "through the face of the magnet in a front-to-back orientation rather than through the magnet bottom-to-top." This is the variant that pairs with Z bracket kits on inswing doors.
- G, conduit fitting. Offered for gate-mounting applications, with a 3/4 in. outer diameter and 1/2 in. inner diameter fitting. The M62FG combines face drilling and conduit.
- SASM, shock absorbing strike mount. The M62FG-SASM adds a strike mount that controls impact between strike plate and magnet. Securitron sells the SASM as a retrofit kit compatible with M32, M62 and M82 strike plates for openings prone to slamming.
- SS, split strike. The M32-SS uses a split armature so one magnet controls a double door with no mullion. Securitron notes that D and BD monitoring are not available with the SS option.
- DM62, double magnet. An all-in-one double magnet for pairs with no mullion, bracket mounted, with 3 ft of cable for each lock.
Inswing doors and glass doors almost always need a bracket. Choose it with our sibling guide to maglock brackets: L vs Z vs U and glass door, which covers the ZA Z bracket kits and the GDB glass door bracket.
What to order: direct mount M62 for outswing doors with header room; M62FG for gates; DM62 or M32-SS for pairs without a mullion. All live in the Securitron catalog.
What do the B and D monitoring options report?
BondSTAT (B) monitors the entire surface of the armature plate and alerts the access control system when the armature moves beyond tolerance, meaning the Magnalock may not be generating full holding force. DPS (D) reports whether the door is open or closed. Securitron describes the two as layered status: DPS says the door is shut, BondSTAT says it is actually held. Searches for "M62BD" or "DM62BD" are this combination: M62 or DM62 with both options. The M82G carries a dual magnetic bond sensor in its listing.
On a high-traffic door with a forced-door alarm, order both. On an interior traffic door where the panel only needs door state, D alone is enough.
What to order: the M62 or M82 with B, D or BD per your panel's alarm points, from the Securitron catalog.
Which Securitron accessories go on the same order?
A Magnalock door needs a way out, a power source and usually a way in. Securitron makes all three.

The EEB2 (searched as "Securitron push button" and "Securitron exit button") is the item most often left off a maglock order. Securitron's own note: when the EEB is used with the Securitron XMS motion sensor, its UL294 certification indicates it meets NFPA 101 requirements for exit of access-controlled egress doors. Pressing it releases the door for 30 seconds, and the EEB2 includes standard lenses plus a blue ADA lens. Request-to-exit selection beyond this pairing is covered in how to choose a request-to-exit device.
What to order: one EEB2 exit button per maglock door and the matching AQD supply.
AQD1 vs AQD2: how do you power the Magnalock?
The AQD Series are supervised dual voltage switching supplies with a battery charger, field selectable for 12 or 24 VDC continuous output, 115 or 230 VAC input. The AQD1 delivers 1 A; the AQD2, about $255 at NLS, delivers 2 A. Both are expandable to 16 outputs in the standard enclosure, outputs are Class 2 limited with PTC Polyswitch distribution boards, and both are available with a single relay fire trigger or individually fire-triggered outputs. They support up to two sealed gel, AGM or wet lead acid batteries (sold separately) and tolerate brownout or overvoltage of plus or minus 15% of nominal.
Sizing rule: add the cut-sheet current of every device on the supply (magnets, readers, exit buttons, sensors) at the chosen voltage, then leave headroom. If that total plus headroom fits inside 1 A, the AQD1 does the job; past that, or when you plan to add doors to the same enclosure later, step to the AQD2. Run magnets at 24 VDC where wire runs are long. The full method is in how to choose an access control power supply.
Maglocks are life-safety devices. The authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) and local code govern fire alarm release, egress hardware and fail-safe behavior, and the fire trigger wiring on the AQD belongs to a qualified technician coordinating with the fire alarm contractor.
What to order: the Securitron AQD2 for multi-device doors, the AQD1 for a single light load.

Common mistakes
- Putting an M32 on a perimeter door because it was the lowest-priced Magnalock in the catalog.
- Ordering an M62 without the F option and then a ZA Z bracket kit that requires F.
- Specifying BD monitoring on an M32-SS; D and BD are not available with the split strike.
- Leaving out the EEB2 backup exit button when a motion sensor is the REX.
- Sizing the AQD to the magnet only and forgetting readers, buttons and sensors.
- Using a standard M62 on a gate instead of the M62FG conduit version.
- Wiring fire alarm release without AHJ review of the sequence.
