ROFU makes electric locking hardware for access-controlled doors: electric strikes, electromagnetic locks and shear locks. ROFU products at a glance

The ROFU range in our catalog covers three ways to lock a door electrically. Electric strikes replace the strike in the frame and release the latch of a mechanical lock. Maglocks hold the door with a magnet on the frame and an armature on the door. Shear locks are concealed magnets that hold the door in the frame head, for double swinging and glass doors.

Choosing a ROFU electric strike

Pick the strike by lock type, faceplate size and keeper position. The 1430 and 1440 are listed for cylindrical and mortise locksets with a 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" faceplate and are handed; their listings note the keeper opening is 3/8" below the center line on the 1430 and starts at the center line on the 1440, so match the latch position of your lock. Larger faceplates (6-7/8", 7-15/16" and 9") cover bigger frame cutouts. The 1410 offset strike and the 2400 kit are listed for cylindrical locksets, and the 2400 kit is dual voltage with two faceplates. All ROFU strikes in our catalog are listed as fail secure.

ROFU maglocks and shear locks

ROFU 8500 Series maglocks are listed as 12/24 VDC selectable and fail safe, and the 8512-LC holds 1200 lbs with a key hole mount. The 8512-DE adds delayed egress, which is only allowed where the code and authority having jurisdiction permit it. For sliding doors, the 8612 slide mounting maglock (1200 lbs) and the 8406M mini sliding door maglock (650 lbs) are listed. Shear locks hide the magnet: the 8031-002 is listed at 2200 lbs with SPDT relay output for monitoring, for double swinging and glass doors, and the 8035 mini shear lock at 1200 lbs.

Fail safe, fail secure and egress

ROFU electric strikes are fail secure: the door stays latched if power fails, and the lock lever still lets people out. ROFU maglocks are fail safe: they release when power is removed, which is how a maglock lets people exit during an alarm or power loss. A door with a maglock still needs a means of egress such as a push to exit button or motion sensor, and a regulated access control power supply.
