How LCN part numbers work

An LCN part number is the closer series followed by a part code, and once you know the code you can find the same part for any series. For example, 4040XP-3077 is a regular arm for the 4040XP, and 1460-3077 is a regular arm for the 1460. Some numbers end with a finish code, such as 689 (aluminum painted), or a hand (RH or LH) on cylinders and covers. Read the series from the label or the cover of the closer before you order.

Arms and shoes

The arm transfers the closer's force to the door, and it is the part most often bent or broken. Order the arm by series and by mounting: a regular arm (-3077) for regular or top jamb mounting, a parallel arm with shoe (for example 1450-3077/PA or 4050A-3077/PA) for parallel arm mounting, and a hold open arm (-3049) where the door must stay open. The rod and shoe (-79) connects the forearm to the frame on many heavy duty series.

Tracks and rollers for track closers

Track closers, such as the 4040XPT, 4010T, 1460T and the concealed 2030 and 2010 series, use a track on the door or frame and a roller on the arm. Replace both if the roller is worn, and match the track type: standard (-3038), with bumper (-3038B) or hold open, with a hold open roller (-3034H). The 4040XPT-3038 standard track is one of our most requested LCN parts.

Cylinder assemblies: replacing the closer body

If the closer leaks oil or will not control the door, the cylinder (the closer body) is usually the failed part. LCN lists a cylinder assembly (-3071), which includes mounting parts, and a cylinder only (-3971). Several are handed, such as the 5034-3071 LH or the 4214T-3071 RH, and some are listed with a size, for example the 2016-3071 size 6 or the 2035-3071 size 5. Keep the existing arm and cover if they are in good condition.

Drop plates, covers and mounting hardware

Drop plates (-18) let a closer mount where the frame or top rail is too narrow or the ceiling is flush. Covers (-72 plastic, -72MC metal) finish the closer and are often handed on track closers, such as the 4210T-72MC RH. For fastening, the catalog lists LCN through bolts (TB), machine screws (MS), the SRT-4 self reaming and tapping screw pack and the 4011-WMS wood and machine screw pack.

Automatic operator parts

LCN low energy operators have their own parts: motor gearbox assemblies for the 9130, 9140, 9530 and 9540, the 9130-3462SC control box, 9540-518 and 9550-518 cable and parts bags, and 4310ME and 4314ME electrically controlled closer parts such as the 4310ME-3351 120V ME switch assembly. Check the operator model plate before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the parts of a door closer called?

A surface door closer has a cylinder (the body that holds the oil and spring), an arm that connects it to the door or frame, a cover, and mounting hardware such as drop plates and screws. Track closers add a track and roller. LCN lists each one by series and part code, such as -3077 for the regular arm.

Do LCN parts fit other closer brands?

No. LCN parts are made for LCN closer series and are not interchangeable with Norton, Sargent, Falcon or other brands. Even within LCN, arms, covers and cylinders are specific to the series, so always order by the series printed on the closer.

Where is the model number on an LCN closer?

Remove the closer cover: the series, such as 4040XP, 4010, 1460 or 1260, is usually cast or stamped on the closer body. If the marking is worn or painted over, send us photos of the body, the arm and how it is mounted, with the door's opening direction, and we will help identify it.
